Modern India Pale Ale (IPA)

Hawkers Beer

Modern India Pale Ales (IPAs) share many similarities with their Juicy-Hazy Pale Ale counterparts albeit with an even greater emphasis on hoppiness along with increased alcohol levels (6.0 – 8.0%+ ABV).

Modern IPAs sit at the forefront of extreme flavourful hop expression, and generally (although not always) have a cloudy appearance from straw yellow through to sunset orange.  They often have an enhanced perceived sweetness on the palate (sometimes thorough inclusion of lactose or other adjuncts), low to moderately low bitterness and a soft pillowy mouthfeel (from the inclusion of oats and wheat).

These beers are all about enjoyment, designed to be consumed as fresh as possible and frequently released as limited runs (often with beautifully artistic cans designed by local artists).

Once you get a taste for this style it’s sure to stay with you on your indie beer journey.
